Company Member & Founder, Janice Lancaster

Janice Lancaster        

Janice Lancaster was introduced to ideas of 20th Century Artists under the tutelage of Stephanie Nugent at the NC Governor's School. She attended the NC School of the Arts for her senior year of high school and continued there until 2001, receiving a BFA in Contemporary Dance. She has had the honor of attending the American Dance Festival, Bates Dance Festival, and Doug Varone and Dancers Workshop on full scholarships.

She is a founding member of the busy VIA Dance Collaborative in New York City, and has also had the pleasure of dancing with Shen Wei Dance Arts, Abby Chan, Satoshi Haga, and Aynsley Vandenbrouke Movement Group. Janice's choreography, “St. John’s Wort,” is currently being toured by the Hubbard Street 2 Dance Company of Chicago, and she will make a new work on HS2 as part of their National Choreographic Competition in the spring.

She was awarded the 2007 Bessie Schonberg Choreographic residency on the Yard in Martha’s Vineyard, and her work has been presented in New York City at Joyce SoHo Presents, the Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theatre, Lincoln Center’s Clark Studio Theatre, Dixon Place at University Settlement, and elsewhere at The Universidad de las Américas in Cholula, Mexico; the Fulton Opera House in Lancaster, PA; the State University of NY in Fredonia; the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert, CA; and the North Carolina School of the Arts.
