Katie Swords, originally from Gastonia, NC, received her BFA from the North Carolina School of the Arts. Following graduation, she danced at the Bessie Schoenberg Choreographers and Dancers Residency at The Yard. Shortly after moving to NYC, Katie helped co-found VIA Dance Collaborative, a dance company for which she continually choreographs and dances. Katie’s work has been seen throughout NYC, in North Carolina, at various universities, and at Performática in Puebla, Mexico. She currently dances with Daniel Charon and has had the pleasure of working with Melissa Briggs Dance, Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company, Satoshi Haga, Hahn Nguyen’s Notoriety Dance, and Helen Simoneau. She has also worked with photographer, Lois Greenfield, whose photos of Katie were featured in Shutterbug Magazine in December 2007. Katie is currently on fellowship at Hollins University and is scheduled to graduate with her MFA in dance in 2010.
