We're headed out on a series of independent projects this winter, and we want to stay tied to our New York home while we're away. To do so we're launching Far Away/Back Home Again, a huge postcard and e-mail chain which we want YOU to be a part of. The project will allow us to reflect on our Manhattan home when traveling abroad, using the city's base of artistic support and you, our friends here, as our creative touchstone. After our travels, we will set out to create a new dance work with the content of the postcards and emails as our starting point.

How the project works:

1)Sign up with your mailing address and e-mail here.

2) You will get a set of postage paid postcards and await the first e-mail instructions from the first company member, Adrienne.

3) Adrienne will send you a postcard, activating the chain. She will also email you, reminding you to look for her postcard in the mail and to pass the chain along.

4) Upon receipt of the postcard, write you own sentence on one postcard and mail it to someone new.*

5) Upon receipt of the postcard from you, that person will e-mail a sentence to .postcard@viadance.org They will also have a chance to sign up for their own set of pre-paid postcards to send during the rest of the chain.

6) We will repeat these steps two more time while on our travels, with company members Katie and Dawn sending you cards, and you sending onto two new people.

7) In June, we will email you and ask you to take your two remaining postcards on the road with you for summer vacation. When the mood strikes, write a sentence inspired by your location, mood, and feelings about being away from home. Send these postcards to VIA's Manhattan headquarters.

8) In August, using the accumulated sentences, we will create a new work to be premiered this fall, to be shown alongside work that we created while away and which has never been seen in New York. You will be invited to the shows: anyone who contributed a sentence will receive discounted admission.

As the postcard and online chains unfold, VIA will track the progress, posting sentences online and marking on a map the locations from which the postcards are sent. Visit the blog here.

* We are trying to reach maximum Manhattan participants, so you if you know someone to send to who lives in Manhattan, great! If not, send on to anyone you choose.
